commitment

"I have a passion to truly help others and a = commitment to do that very thing.  It is often very hard to find other= s that will follow through on their "sought after" passions for an actual l= ength of time.  In and out, In and out....so it is the life of a volun= teer coordinator trying to gather troops"
The grant is in and now we wai= t.  What this grant could do for so many struggling students is extrem= ely obvious.  We would have 3 years to work on showing just how much w= e can help on 12 "reluctant" campuses.  I do not understand when a fre= e, student helping program can gain reluctance after 1 1/2 years of clear p= rogress, but so it is in a bureaucratic society.  So we wait.
"life rocks, everything else is all gravy= "

up to date

We have had an incredible year thus far. Amy Manfrini brought her Crisis Intervention class to OCC to help out with Caring S.H.O.S. and WOW, what a great group.  One of the classes volunteers, Michael, helped us to change the name from Care S.H.O.S. to Caring S.H.O.S. and it fit for us all very well.  We have been approved via the state of CA to be a non-profit corporation and were also adopted by Iris Hidalgo and her church Ministerio La Gran Comision Internacional, giving us the tax exempt status that we need to take in monetary donations while allowing those who donate to receive their charitable contribution tax write off.  So much more is in store.  We have a relationship with a community storage unit to donate to us a space to use for larger storage of all things we give away.  We are hoping to have the use of a moving truck donated to us for pick up of mass quantities of food as well.  We'll keep you all updated more often.

Student Assist Portal

Writing in on any volunteer events or scholarships, grants, or other monies to help students would be a great idea for this site.  Maybe even something similar to ratemyprofessor.com in that a student can say if he or she liked or disliked a certain prof.
Even just writing about things going on around campus or the world and how our day went.  Just another way for "Students to Help Other Students"
